In this book, Takashi Sekiyama aims to reveal the mechanism of compromise and change in regimes where countries agree in general but disagree on the details regarding coordination methods. When countries agree on the need to collaborate but are in conflict regarding the specific method, one country must always compromise. This situation is known as the Battle of the Sexes in game theory. It has ever been believed that if an agreement is reached under such regimes, the countries do not have the incentive to withdraw from the agreement. This study, however, shows that this belief is not always true if the countries can revise the outcome of their negotiations later. This study also concludes that the factors of power, institutions and consensus determine which country should compromise when the countries agree in general and disagree on coordination methods.

Chilled gas pipelines buried through the boundary between permafrost and non-permafrost soil are subjected to serious deformation due to differential frost heave. In order to predict bending stress and strain of pipelines for engineering design, it is necessary to develop an adequate model for interactive behavior between frost heave and pipelines. This work presents a potential method based on beam on elastic foundation model, two-dimensional temperature distribution analysis, and Takashi s equation, in order to contribute the above-mentioned problem. The governing differential equation is solved analytically according to the boundary and continuity conditions. Spring coefficient and distributed loads in permafrost and non-permafrost soils are the main parameters controlling elastic response for a beam on elastic foundation. Those parameters are revised in the frame of pipeline deformation induced by frost heave and appropriate parameter assumptions are proposed in this study.

The book contains seven chapters written by noted experts and young researchers who present their recent studies of both pure mathematical problems of perturbation theories and application of perturbation methods to the study of the important topic in physics, for example, renormalization group theory and applications to basic models in theoretical physics (Y. Takashi), the quantum gravity and its detection and measurement (F. Bulnes), atom-photon interactions (E. G. Thrapsaniotis), treatment of spectra and radiation characteristics by relativistic perturbation theory (A. V. Glushkov et al), and Green's function theory and some applications (Jing Huang). The pure mathematical issues are related to the problem of generalization of the boundary layer function method for bisingularly perturbed differential equations (K. Alymkulov and D. A. Torsunov) and to the development of new homotopy asymptotic methods and some of their applications (Baojian Hong).
